About
Ward 250 is Valar Atomics' test reactor at the San Rafael Energy Lab in Orangeville, Utah. It uses high-temperature gas reactor design principles with TRISO fuel, a graphite moderator and helium coolant, and is meant to de-risk Valar's technology on the way to full-scale, mass-produced reactors. The reactor was airlifted by the U.S. military in February 2026, and in June 2026 it became the second reactor to reach criticality under the U.S. Department of Energy's reactor pilot program.
