About

Fremantle Seaweed is a Western Australian aquaculture company growing Asparagopsis, a native red seaweed that CSIRO research has shown can cut methane emissions from cattle and other ruminants by more than 80% when added to feed. It grows the seaweed's gametophyte phase in the open ocean off Fremantle and has been a cultivation partner of FutureFeed, the CSIRO-established holder of the global IP for Asparagopsis as a feed ingredient, since March 2025. In April 2026 it bought an ocean-backed facility at Mews Road, Fremantle, funded by a $4 million WA Government Investment Attraction Fund grant, and in October 2026 it acquired FutureFeed's onshore nursery and tank-based production technology for the tetrasporophyte phase, targeting first commercial sales in 2027. Its CEO and founder is Chris De Cuyper.
