Causal world models and agents for Physical AI
Aether AI is a San Diego frontier AI company building infrastructure for causal intelligence: AI systems that model cause and effect in the real world rather than relying on correlations alone. It was founded in 2026 by Prof. Biwei Huang, an assistant professor at UC San Diego with twelve years of research in causal discovery. Its first application is Physical AI, where it develops the decision layer between perception and control for robots; forecasting and scientific discovery are also on its roadmap. On October 8, 2026 it publicly demonstrated CRIS-0, its Causal Robotic Intelligence System, running household tasks on a physical robot. The company says it has raised approximately US$20 million and has a team of around 20 people.
