Maritime Fusion is developing a first-of-a-kind fusion reactor targeted at marine vessels and off-grid energy installations using a tokamak design with high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets. The company targets power scales 10x lower than grid-scale, which relaxes unsolved material science challenges and allows lower capacity factors. Target markets include decarbonizing large commercial ships (which account for 3% of global emissions), remote islanded energy installations, and defense operations.
