IoT gas sensing and machine vision to track produce ripeness and prevent food waste
Strella Biotechnology (Strella) is a Seattle-based ag-tech company that monitors fresh produce quality across the supply chain. Its IoT devices measure gases such as ethylene released by ripening fruit, and machine vision plus software combine those readings with data like origin, packing date and variety to assess fruit condition. It serves growers, packers, shippers, distributors and retailers of apples, pears, avocados, citrus and kiwifruit. Founded in Philadelphia in 2019 by CEO Katherine Sizov, it raised a $4.25 million Series A extension led by SilverBlue in October 2026, bringing total funding to $26.25 million.
