Open, Kubernetes-native architecture for running and governing enterprise AI agents
Stacklok builds an open, self-hosted, Kubernetes-native platform for running AI agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers inside the enterprise, positioned as an alternative to the vertically integrated agent stacks of frontier labs and hyperscalers. Its products cover an MCP registry, MCP gateway, MCP runtime and AI gateway, and it maintains two Apache-2.0 open source projects: ToolHive, a platform for running and managing MCP servers, and Mecatl, a cloud-native agent harness. The company is led by Kubernetes co-creators Craig McLuckie (CEO) and Joe Beda (CTO). Stacklok launched in May 2023 with a $17.5M Series A from Accel and Madrona (per TechCrunch and Business Wire) and lists Accel, Bain Capital Ventures and Madrona as backers.
