Thermally optimized GaN power amplifiers for radar, satellites and telecom
Soctera is an Ithaca, New York semiconductor company spun out of Cornell University's Jena-Xing group. It builds radio-frequency power amplifiers that co-optimize the semiconductor stack electrically and thermally, inserting a thin aluminum nitride layer to cut gallium nitride content per device by about 20x and halve thermal resistance, aimed at longer range and reliability for defense radar, electronic warfare, satellite and telecom systems. Co-founded by CEO Austin Hickman and CTO Reet Chaudhuri, it closed a $4 million seed round in 2026 backed by Anorak Ventures and Multiball Capital with 9Yards Capital, Mana Ventures and Red Bear Ventures, after winning over $4.2 million in non-dilutive grants from the NSF, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and the CHIPS Act.
