About

Silvia Bio is a University of Sheffield spinout that helps biopharmaceutical companies make biologic drugs more efficiently. Its platform profiles how a customer's mammalian production cells (such as CHO cells) behave during manufacturing to pinpoint the processes limiting yield and quality, then supplies licensable small-molecule media additives that target those bottlenecks in the bioreactor. Founded in 2025 by CEO Ed Curry, Melinda Pohle and Sheffield academics Adam Brown and David James, building on more than 20 years of Sheffield biomanufacturing research. In October 2026 it raised £3M led by Northern Gritstone with Parkwalk, the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund, Wren Capital and angels, to move into dedicated lab space in Sheffield and grow its team.
