Building a world model of the human cell for drug discovery
Rivercell is a Paris-based biotechnology and AI company building its own data generation platform for how human cells respond to drugs and genetic changes, and training an 'AI Virtual Cell' world model on perturbational single-cell data to predict those responses in silico. It is indication-agnostic and runs its own wet lab in Paris. Started in summer 2025 by CEO Yann Fleureau (previously co-founder of Cardiologs, acquired by Philips), joined in 2026 by CSO Eric Durand (formerly at Novartis and Owkin, and co-founder of Bioptimus). In October 2026 it announced a $25M seed round led by HV with HCVC, Alven and Bpifrance Digital Venture.
