AI lab building recursively self-improving AI to automate knowledge discovery
Recursive is an AI research company working on recursive self-improvement, where AI systems help research and build better AI. Its automated research system, the Eureka Machine, generates ideas, runs experiments and uses the results to decide what to try next, with people overseeing the work. In October 2026 it released Flint, a free open-weight coding model that runs on a laptop. Recursive is led by CEO Richard Socher, formerly chief scientist at Salesforce, and emerged from stealth in May 2026.
