Rice-based dairy alternatives and rice-grown milk proteins
Kinish is a Tokyo-based food tech startup developing dairy alternatives starting from rice. It sells The Rice Creamery, a plant-based ice cream made with Japanese rice, in Japan and the United States, and is researching molecular farming to express casein, a cow's milk protein, in dwarf rice plants grown in plant factories, aiming at future ice cream, cheese and yogurt products. In October 2026 it announced a JPY 490 million Series A first close from investors including Shimadzu's CVC fund and Obayashi Corporation.
