One Rust database engine that runs embedded on devices or clustered across servers
KineDB is a Copenhagen-based startup building a database engine in Rust that can run embedded on a phone or clustered across a datacenter. Every instance holds full history so replication and merge are built in rather than a separate sync layer, peers rebalance data without sharding projects, every write is versioned and branchable for audit and rollback, and the write log can stream to S3 or other object stores so servers stay stateless. It was founded in 2026 by Allan Zimmermann (founder of OpenIAP), is in stealth with design partners, and raised €850,000 led by NGL Ventures with Superhero Capital and Nordic angels.
