Advanced nuclear company building fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature reactors
Kairos Power is an Alameda, California-based nuclear energy company developing fluoride salt-cooled high-temperature reactors (KP-FHR). It describes itself as a vertically integrated nuclear developer, with a manufacturing hub in Albuquerque, New Mexico and its Hermes reactor series under construction in Oak Ridge, Tennessee: Hermes 1, the first non-water-cooled reactor to receive an NRC construction permit, and Hermes 2, a commercial-scale demonstration plant intended to supply electricity to the grid. Mike Laufer is co-founder and CEO. In October 2026 Bloomberg reported a 643 million US dollar funding package for its Tennessee reactor program, combining private investment from investors including GV, DCVC and Samsung C&T with 275 million US dollars from the US Department of Energy.
