Operating system for commercial horticulture combining crop sensors, yield forecasting and pest-scouting robots
hexafarms is a Berlin agtech company building an operating system for commercial greenhouse and soft-fruit growers. It combines wireless sensors that record climate, fertigation, substrate, drainage and light every five minutes, rolling per-zone harvest forecasts built on more than 70 parameters, and autonomous robots that scan every plant daily for early signs of pests and disease. Its AI models cover about 50 cultivars, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, aubergines and berries. Growers pay a subscription while hexafarms deploys, maintains and owns the hardware. Founded in 2021 by David Ahmed, Huijo Kim and Felix Kirschstein, it says more than 50 growers in 13 countries use it, including SanLucar and the cooperatives Elo and Royal ZON. In October 2026 it raised a EUR 4.8 million seed round led by Ananda Impact Ventures and Green Generation Fund, with Grey Silo Ventures, better ventures, Speedinvest, Mudcake and Techstars, plus a Rentenbank Startup Grant and subordinated loan of up to EUR 800,000.
