DINGO deployable infrared sensors that identify chemical threats in seconds
Forward Deployed is a Melbourne national security startup building DINGO (Deployable Infrared Gas Observer), a platform of deployable sensors that brings mid-infrared molecular fingerprinting from the lab to the field so any operator can identify vapour and aerosol chemical threats within seconds. DINGO combines chemical sensing, field-ready hardware and real-time software for continuous sampling and autonomous detection and alerting, and the company pitches it as a replacement for legacy detectors that need consumables, complex calibration and specialist training. Founded in 2023 by CEO Richard Hebden, CTO Alex Barry and chief growth officer Liam Eldon, Swinburne alumni, it collaborates with Swinburne University of Technology and reports contracts in Australia, the US and the UK. In October 2026 it raised A$1 million from Innovation Victoria and Swinburne via the University Innovation Platform to take DINGO towards production.
