Fortastra is a Torrance, California space-defense company building low-cost, maneuverable spacecraft and autonomy software to protect government and commercial satellites on orbit. Founded in 2025 by CEO Mike Smayda, a former SpaceX engineer, the company announced a $30 million Series A on October 8, 2026 led by First In, with participation from Upfront, Space Capital, Rsquared, Side Door Ventures, ATX Ventures and others, following an earlier $8 million seed.
