Sydney medtech developing the world's first hydrogel condom
Eudaemon Technologies is a Sydney medtech company developing a hydrogel condom as a tissue-like alternative to latex and synthetic condoms. The material is 50% water, inherently wet, latex-free and hypoallergenic, and grew out of research supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Grand Challenges initiative for a next-generation condom. The company says it has spent more than a decade on the material and manufacturing process, holds 61 granted patents including in the US and China, and has completed an initial clinical study. In October 2026 it officially opened its manufacturing facility in Annandale, Sydney, completed an oversubscribed $4.5 million seed raise, opened a further $10 million round (with 115 Capital mandated, per the AFR), and launched its first consumer campaign, Operation International Relations, ahead of a targeted 2028 launch in Australia and the US. Its co-founders include executive chairman Nick Northcott and Dr Simon Cook.
