Modular units that convert stranded and waste methane into liquid methanol at the source
Emvolon, based in Woburn, Massachusetts, repurposes mass-produced automotive engines as compact chemical reactors that convert stranded methane from landfills, dairy farms and oil and gas flares into liquid methanol on site. Its skid-mounted units scale by replication, power themselves with residual gas and need no grid connection, and the methanol is trucked to a central facility for sale. In October 2026 Emvolon announced a $22 million Series A with participation from MassVentures, VX Ventures and Wagner Carbon to deploy its first commercial-scale system.
